In December we delivered almost 100 gateways. The M-Gates were produced in Berlin and fitted in the laboratory of METR GmbH / Next Big Thing AG. These gateways will be installed at the beginning of 2019 at a large housing company. METR thus sold almost 200 M-Gates in 2018. The gateways installed to date read the heat consumption data of over 80 buildings in Berlin and Leipzig. Every two weeks we receive approx. 6300 different measurements.
Harald Zapp, member of the advisory board of METR and founder of NBT, discusses the influence of IoT and blockchain technologies on new business models with Jürgen Stüber. The article also introduces METR as one of the promising startups of the NBT. We are delighted about this article.
On the 26th of November, Franka visited the Energy Turnaround Congress 2018 of the German Energy Agency (dena), where discussion included strategies and solutions for a new attitude towards the energy industry. Franka participated in a panel discussion on "Bottom-up energy system transformation: Questions included: "What contribution can start-ups make to the energy system of the future?", "What are the reasons why innovative business models fail despite pressure to innovate?", and "Do we need different framework conditions here?” Franka referred to a regulatory hurdle that creates obstacles to innovation not only in the energy sector, but also in the housing industry, namely the technical guideline TR-03109-1 of the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) on the Smart Meter Gateway. This leads to ambiguities, for example regarding a possible change in the limit values for an installation obligation. In general, more clarity from the BSI is desirable. Additionally, METR indicates that the housing industry is not obliged to install smart meter gateways. Smart Meter Gateways were designed primarily to ensure a stable Smart Grid. October was a great month for METR! In an intensive workshop we refined our product strategy, which consists of developing intelligent applications in the area of Smart Buildings and a building management platform. Maite, Mladen and Franka were supported by Markus Andrezak, a product development expert. Markus has more than 15 years of experience in developing Internet products. Prior to founding überproduct, he worked as a full-time employee or service provider for a wide range of companies (e.g. eBay, AOL, Scout Group, MyHammer). He now shares his experience and ability to grasp things quickly and get to the point with Startups. Markus' feedback now influences METR's product development. It was an asset for METR to work with him. Also in October, METR's ordinary shareholders' meeting took place. METR's Advisory Board, which now includes Erna-Maria Trixl, Dieter Berndt and Harald Zapp, was elected at the shareholders' meeting. We are happy to have such well interconnected experts at METR's side.
Franka and Maite were at the Expo Real in Munich. The Expo is one of the most important real estate fairs in Europe. METR had many interesting conversations and gained valuable contacts and business leads. On the first day of the fair, Maite presented METR in a pitch at the Tech-Alley.
